With the advent of June, we all (at least in India) encounter blazing sun and heated up weather. But heat is not always a bad thing, especially when it comes to tech market. And this time around it’s again because of a new launch by OnePlus that is – they are ready to release Edition 5.

It isn’t a news to you anymore, considering the fact that this device has a lot a specifications rumours going on which furthermore increases the expectations from the company and its upcoming device.
But if you have been living under a rock or you haven’t got the time to catch up with the news regarding this device; then here is a quick overview for you!

Specifications

      ·         It is speculated to sport a 5.5” Display with the resolution of 1440x2560 pixels (2k display) with the Pixel Density of 534 ppi. They can also opt for their last year’s Optic AMOLED with FHD(1080p) resolution display panels which was sporting in both OnePlus 3 and 3T, which can be categorized as a good thing if they don’t bring a significant improvement in the battery capacity as compared to their last year’s flagships (still unconfirmed).

      ·         It is powered by the latest SoC by Qualcomm, i.e. Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with Octa-Cores (4x2.35GHz and 4x1.9GHz). Being the latest processor, it has several advantages over last generations of processors, like Snapdragon 820/821 present in OnePlus 3 and 3T respectively, in terms of both performance and battery efficiency.

      ·         This chipset also comes with the latest and greatest of GPUs of Qualcomm i.e. Adreno 540. Gaming and graphic hungry apps should run with no lag whatsoever.

      ·         It is rumoured to be available in 2 RAM variants – 6GB and 8GB. Although according to a leak done by Evan Blass on his twitter page revealing that the OnePlus 5 is most likely to be launched with 8 GB RAM.

      ·         OnePlus has always considered the Apple as an inspiration when it comes to the design of a smartphone (As told by Carl Pei in one of his interviews last year), therefore in this year as well we can observe a striking resemblance between OnePlus 5 and iPhone 7 Plus in terms of design language.

      ·         In battery and Charging department, OnePlus hasn’t provided any concrete news. Yet it is anticipated that we’ll see an upgraded version of Dash Charging technology (Could be called a Dash Charging v2.0). Dash charging right now is faster than Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 and 3.0 present in the devices of leading companies like Samsung, LG and Moto. It will also come with USB Type-C port like last year’s flagships of the company. Battery is not supposed to have any significant change as it might vary between 3000mAh and 3800mAh.

      ·         Storage is also a field where we need to pay attention as this device is likely to launch in 3 storage variants i.e. 64GB/128GB/256GB (unconfirmed).

      ·         Seems Camera is going to be the USP of OnePlus 5 this year as the company is doing all the promotions around this feature of the phone. OnePlus 5 is going to have a Dual-Camera setup for better performance in terms and pictures and videos. There is also a news about OP teaming up with DxOMark to improve the quality exponentially in this area.

      ·         Fingerprint Scanner will be present in this device although the position of it is not confirmed, so we still have to wait for the launch to know if it’ll be a front facing one or not.

      ·         Pricing is a crucial deciding factor among the buyers. But this year’s OnePlus flagship won’t be as affordable as company’s previous iterations. With every year, the company has increased the price of its top devices as compared to previous year. And if we see a price hike this year, it won’t be a surprise. It is likely to be priced around $450 to $590. That’s sure gonna leave a mark if not make a complete hole in your pocket. But considering what it has to offer, we don’t have much to complain as of now.

Conclusion:
OnePlus has surely done wonders with its smartphones in past and uphold its position as a “Flagship Killer”. So, the expectations from this not-so-new-anymore company is really high as it is supposed to give tough competition to top dogs like Samsung, LG etc. Only time will tell how great this year’s OnePlus flagship will be but one thing is certain that this company always creates a turmoil in this ever evolving tech market.
